Hi !
My names Dave Hughes from Stafford in England.
I have attached a picture of me racing a Kreidler in the Classic Club
here
in England in 1997.
The bike was built and owned by a friend of mine, Dave Brearley.
5 speed, watercooled kit engine from 1973 ish. Built from new parts
obtained over Europe.
The chassis is a replica of a Van Veen from the late 60's early 70's.
The frame and fibreglass was all done by Dave himself.
He has a number of 50cc racing machines and if you are interested I
can
send some
more pictures.
There is a 50cc Racing Enthusiasts Club here in the UK with approx.
70
members and of
course a large number of interesting machines.
Approx. 12 actually racing in the Classic club.
Regards, Dave Hughes.

I dont care if I have to make a club for the Orlando area I would really
like to get racing.
I dont even know if you are in the US but if you could give me any

I like your 50cc racing site. I was suprised that I had never heard
of the two fastest 50cc bikes ever produced. I currently race an
Aprilia RS50 in the CMRRA(www.racecmrra.com). Last month was
my first race and I ran two heats taking 3rd in both of them. Because
the bike is water cooled I am forced to race in modified class. Since
I am already in modified class, the bike will not be 50cc for long,
it
will soon be going to 68cc(the class limit). Ive attached an action
shot
from my November race to this email. Since the picture was taken
I've modified the bike extensively, removing the premixer, oil injector,
and carb. I'm replacing the stock carb with a Mikuni 24mm flatslide,
K&N airfilter, and a custom intake manifold that I had made for
the bike.
I've also tweaked the reed stops as much as head space will allow.
The
stock pipe got replaced with a new Arrow that needed to be immediately
cut up and redesigned because of its pathetic ground clearance. I basically
took this "replica"(i use that term loosely) pipe and made it into
a high
pipe. I've got Michelin slicks front and rear(a 9/59 and 12/58) which
seem
to work well. My next race is at a higher speed
ourse( www.willowspringsraceway.com;
on "the streets" course )so the motor modfications will be tested
extensively.

Hi,
I race in 50gp at Loudon NH with the USCRA, attached is a photo of
us before
we start. I am the one on the step through (545). This year with Karl
Soleskys help, I hope to build a frame and put the motor from the scooter
onto it. The bike is a 63 Yamaha U5 rotary valve motor. The fact that
I was
running a step through caused a ruckus, but the weight of the frame
really
left me out of things, not to mention the difficulties I was having
with the
leading link suspension.
There are a couple of issues I wanted to discuss with you before I
start
spending $.
a. The motor makes plenty of power but it is an automatic with three
speeds.
The drop in RPM from first to second is unacceptable for racing. WFO
shifting is a problem also. Even though the engine was a very popular
Yamaha
motor, I am having a hard time finding spares. I am having second thoughts
about turning it into a race bike.
This is considered vintage racing, so I need to keep wire wheels and
the
motor needs to be based on castings or like design made before 1970.
Do you
know what motor would be popular and easy to aquire? I found a basket
case
garelli motor, but it seems out of the question. Are there any vintage
50gp
bikes out there for sale?
Nice page!
Thanks,
Barry Sanel

USCRA@aol.com
FIM Grants First North American Sanction to USCRA
The first ever FIM North American Intercontinental sanction has been
granted
to the USCRA for its June 14 U.S. Vintage Motorcycle Grand Prix at
NHIS.
Three years ago the FIM Consolidated its North American sanctioning
bodies
into an alliance between the Canadian Motorcycle Association and the
American
Motorcyclist Association. The new alliance is the sole representative
of the
FIM in North America. All FIM sanctions in North America are processed
through this alliance. Last year, the CMA in conjunction with the VRRA
held
the first FIM sanctioned National series for vintage motorcycles in
Canada.
On the basis of that successful series, the USCRA proposed an
intercontinental series between the United States and Canada.
The USCRA
submitted a proposal for a series round to be held with its highly
successful
U.S. Vintage Motorcycle Grand Prix held annually at NHIS in June at
the start
of the AMA National week in Laconia.
The proposal was discussed both with the alliance here and at the annual
FIM
meeting in Switzerland. The proposal was approved for the year 2000.
In the
interim, it appears that the Canadian round might be in doubt as scheduling
and organizational manpower needs seem to be a problem. The lack of
a
Canadian round will not affect the USCRA round at NHIS. As of this
writing,
the rules to govern the competition are being worked out between the
CMA and
the USCRA. It appears that the rules wilt be very similar to the rules
currently being used by both organizations. At this point it also appears
that there might be six solo classes plus the sidecars split into two
divisions.
With the addition of the FIM sanction for the June event, the Am-Can
races
previously scheduled for this event will be moved to the September
Labor Day
event. What does all this mean? Well, this event will be listed
on the FIM's
Calendar of International events for the year 2000. With their listing,
the
alliance backing and our promotion and advertising we can expect more
of an
international entry and a larger spectator turnout. The awards will
be FIM!
They will carry the FIM logo and we can expect to have some significant
press
for this event. It is our hope that a successful event here will become
a
stepping stone to our participation in a full-blown international event
in
the future. If the Canadian round does not materialize, the winners
of this
event will be the recognized North American Vintage Road Racing Champions.
As
of this writing, the name for the event still has not been finalized.
We hope
that the event can continue to be called the United States Vintage
Motorcycle
Grand Prix but that remains to be negotiated in relation to the FIM
sanction.
If in fact a different name for the event is chosen, the US Vintage
Motorcycle Grand Prix name that we have trademarked will be moved to
our
September event with the AmCan races.

My name is Mark, and I'm a 16 year old with a little honda MB5.
I was wondering if you could give me any ideas of how I could get it to
go faster, coz it only does about 50mph at the moment. I also wondered
where I could get hold of a Kreidler, and what sort of price I would be
looking at.
Thanks
Mark
